My 4 yr old female was diagnosed with mild unilateral HD. How much exercise should she have? I have been taking her on 3 short walks a day but she does limp after she gets up from lying down after the walks. I know walking her is important, but I don't want to over do it. Anyone with more experience with HD and arthritis please advise since this is all new to me. Thanks in advance.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog's HD. That is a shame for a young dog. I would continue to walk her and monitor her closely during the walks. When she slows down, shows any signs of discomfort or lameness I would stop. Is your dog on any supplements or medications? Swimming would be better if that is possible.

Yes she is taking Tramadol 50mgs for pain also Rimadyl and I have tried just about every glucosamine out there and finally got her to eat K9 glucosamine liquid on her food, also give her salmon oil, vitamin E and and add Udo's pet essentials to every meal.

If you want to supplement with glucosamine I would try the one call JOINT STRONG. I get it from www.k9power.com ... not sure if you feed kibble or raw... you could try giving your dog chicken feet as they have glucosamine in them.... I used the Joint Strong on my old GSD for several years before he passed away at almost 13. It really helped him, although he did not have HD. He did have arthritis in his later years. The Joint Strong really helped him. I did not want to use the Rimadyl that the vet wanted to put him on.That stuff is so hard on the kidneys and liver long term.
Good luck and sorry to hear about your dogs HD

I Have been told about Hokamix, never used it but people swear on it to slow down the progress of arthritis.
