Hello all, recently saw a 19 month old GSL male with what I considered a weak rear, cowhocked, and almost walking on his hocks. Was told by owner it was "because he's spent alot of time crated inside and is underweight" What are your opinions on whether this dog, at 19 months old, could ever "straighten up" if he goes to a home where no longer crated, more and better food, and much more exercise?? Does anyone have any suggestions, or do you think it's too late for this boy? Thanks in advance!

Being a few months shy of two years old the dog is done growing and that definitely limits his potential to "straighten out". It could also be a possibility that he was poorly bred resulting in these abnormalities being inherited and permanent. If his condition is as bad as you describe I suggest you consult a veterinarian before giving this dog too much exercise. It also wouldn't hurt to have some x-rays done on this guy. That should determine wether his condition is permanent or not. How/why did you acquire this dog?

thanks for the reply VonRegal, I didn't say that I acquired the dog! I just saw him, he is the littermate of a good friends female, who has lovely rear/movement, so was wondering if the differences in the way these two were raised is why. He is not poorly bred by no means, out of titled Vrated parents.
