Hello. It has been a while since I have gone through teething with a pup. She is just over 5 months and her adult canines/shearers both upper and lower set are now double fanged. Her puppy teeth are hanging on on the outside of the new adult teeth. They seem really "in there" and are standing up proudly as a remnant to her younger days. Is that normal? They will come out on their own won't they? Thanks

Most of the time they will come out on their own. Does the have stuff to chew on to help dislodge them? Give it a nother few weeks and if she still has them take her to the vet.

The same scenario took place with my youngster. I've had many GSD's and he's the only one I worried about. Thought I was going to have to have his baby teeth pulled. I also thought it might affect the alignment (or straightness of the incoming, permanent ones). No fear--one day the baby teeth were gone, and his teeth are straight. He was also an older pup when this happened. (His ears went up later, too). How common is this? Don't know. But, I did have a favorable outcome.

I would have the pup looked at by your vet. If the primary teeth are in tight, they will have to be removed in a timely manner to avoid changing the bite when the secondary teeth come in. If the primary teeth are blocking on the outside it can cause the secondary teeth to come in behind the front teeth. Please feel comfortblae in emailing me and I will share a photo of a pup that had the same problem. melody@vonfaing.com I hope this helps.

Melody Roberts-- Interesting. I worried about this for about a month, and just when I had decided to have them removed, they were gone. Put the decision off for a few days, because I'm always afraid of anesthesia. Got lucky, and they were gone. Did you have the baby teeth removed from a dog---and, at what age?

Thanks for the fast replies. I am somewhat put at ease..but not really. :) Melody - you can email pics to kmaot@yahoo.ca She was slow to grow and mature as she had a plethora of intestinal probs when younger. She is just now hitting her stride. Ears are essentially up but one is soft when running. She is chewing a ton and it is encouraged. Thanks

they will definitely affect the permanant teeth and the bite if they are tight - happened to one I know and damaged his bite permanently. Would have them removed if they are not loose, or at least let the vet look at the pup. Chewing will help them loosen as is mentioned above.

Good advise to watch and see if they are tight. I have had this happen once and we pulled them ourselves. Have to be careful not to shatter the tooth.

PS..Unless you know what your doing and have help it's best to have a vet pull them.
