Hello everyone,
I just want to know how much should be the average weight to a healthy 6 and half months showline male GSD, I am asking coz my GSD weighs around 48 pounds which I feel he is too thin and he looks thin also, he is very healthy and playfull but I went to a vet to make sure he is OK espcially he eats his meals smoothly ( big portions twice dailys ) and he is dewarmed regularly but the vet said he is perfectly fine?!
Thanks & Regards
Khaled

Based on what you've told us, he sounds fine to me. Post a picture, then we get a better idea of what you are
seeing ?
Please remember, he is past the first puppy stages now; dogs of his age do not need to be allowed to become
OVERweight, just for the sake of the owner not being able to see a rib outline or two.
They do not need additional stress on their growing joints, or they can get growth plate and ligament problems,
and arthritis; no dog should be allowed to get fat, because of the increased risks of diabetes and heart failure.
Many pets are obese, just because the owner thinks they may have been 'too thin' at one point - and we all know
once you put weight on, its harder to get it off !
Also many 'teenage' GSDs simply DON'T put on a lot of weight, however much food is shovelled into them, they
still look a bit skinny, because they are active and growing, and burn the calories off quickly. Your dog may be
that way.
Other people may disagree or have something to add, but it is much easier if we can see a photo. Good luck with
your puppy.

I think Auggie was that weight roughly at 6 months. He's now about 60 lbs at 9 and 1/2 months or closer to 10 months I should say. I'm sure mine will "fill out" to around 75-80 when he matures as an adult. Like hundmutter said though, post a picture, but possibly one from his height level at the side so we can get a good view. And these guys need to be lean in their youth regardless. Too many people think they're healthy only when they no longer have a visible waist.

Hello,
I have GSD 6 1/2 months and he has about 66 pounds which is too many diferent from upper mentioned GSD pappy.
I am watching him and for me he is nice looking. Maybe my eyes are biased.
I dont know how to attach picture of him.
Sorry for my bad English.

Keeping him lean is best and you should be able to feel the ribs very easily and see the last 2 ribs nearest his groin area. Nan
You can add some meat to his dry food and that will help him to gain some weight and muscle; you really want to keep him in lean mass muscle. Nan
