Show line dogs are bred to run around in a ring and look pretty, in the process of breeding these so called PERFECT dogs it is forgotten what the original german shepherd was bred for. A german shepherd is to protect its handler in any situation, it was bred to WORK. A perfect german shepherd is one that works and loves to work. They may not look perfect and have the perfect conformation but if my life depended on it I dont care what the dog that saves me looks like as long as the job gets done. Ask any real K9 handler for the police or military. It almost like two different breeds of dogs. In a dog show the german shepherd should be represented by a great police dog or heroic military dog, not a PRETTY dog. If you want to breed Pretty show dogs get a poodle.

KellyJ- Are you wanting an adult already trained or a puppy to train or have trained?

Go look at posting about working kennels and/or DDR,Czech dogs. You will find some excellent kennels mentioned and most of them have black sables.

I would like to have a trained adult but they are generally fairly expensive. So I have been looking for a pup.

i bought a pup for schutzhund. a year later after paying $1500 for the pup and about $2500 so far for traing, we will be ready for a bh in about 3-4 months. you could import a fairly well trained dog for that. d'mann

You may want to e-mail Bob-O who is a frequent participant on this site. He has a new dog Wino who has apparently been producing some excellent puppies with correct GSD temperament. He may know of some excellent GSD puppies that are available out of Wino. You may also want to contact Eichenluft Kennels, which has produced some GSDs with superbly correct temperament too.
