Hello- We breed Boston Terriers. We've successfully been breeding for approx 7 years now. All adults are properly vaccinated and wormed. We feed a great quality dog food, plus canned puppy food for about the last 2 weeks of the bitches pregnancy. We feed Canidae. We have a female that we had known her and the family. She had been over to our house many times before. Her family could no longer have her so they had given her to us and we bred her. They had one litter with her previously. She free whelped 3 healthy puppies. We took her in. She lives in the house with us and as a matter of fact sleeps with us. We bred her with one of our sires a couple months after we got her. Her pregnancy went fine. The other day she had her babies. Free whelped 3 and the last two wouldn't come. She ended up having a c-section. Here's the thing. The first baby had a hairlip and didn't make it. The second baby was having a hard time coming around. He did, but just was having a hard time getting all the air he needed. I didn't see a problem with this to much because when they are born c-section they act the same if not worse. Okay. The third baby seemed totally fine. Now, first baby died and the second and third baby can't latch on to the nipple to suck. The second baby has a bum leg as well. It's all there but is limp?? She goes in for a c-section and the 4th baby is not right. Deformed and really bad coloring. He didn't make it. 5th baby cried loud and for a very long time right after she was born via c-section. Anyone that deals with c-setions knows that it takes a long time for them to come around to start crying and eating etc... They were born going on her 64th day. Which she might not of conceived on the first tie. Her temp didn't even drop to 98 until her 64th day. Okay the puppies are now like 3 days old. We have 2 out of five that were deformed and didn't make it. The other two still can't latch on and suck and one of those two still has the limp back foot. They try like heck because of course they are hungry. Yes, I'm supplementing them with Just Born. The last baby that cried right away and for a long time seems to be doing great. Growing like a weed and super fat. Mom has tons of milk. I have never experienced anything like this before. Right now Iam conerned with the two that can't suck. Does anyone have any idea what this could be caused from. Underdeveloped Lungs? I just don't know. The puppy that had the hairlip was nice and big and looked great, besides his lip. The three that I still have also were born looking big and healthy. The two that Iam supplementing look okay, but who knows what will happen. Mom is still taking care of them and loves them. There has not been any pesticides sprayed and mom did not get into anything. Do you think that stress could have caused all of this? After all she did have 3 healthy puppies her first litter. We only did one thing different this time then we have done in the past and thats use solid gold concept a bitch. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If the lungs are the reason the two can't latch on and suck, will they make it with me supplementing them for their lungs to eventually develope? I know nothing about underdeveloped lungs. Or with underdeveloped lungs will the eventually not make it anyways, no matter what I do? Brian
