I'm posting for a friend. She just got the diagnosis of DM. The dog is showing some leg dragging on one side now. I know that there are some recommended thngs to do, but has anyone had good results from doing a certain thing or things- ie: diet, activity, supplements. All she wants to do is give him a good quality of life.

Thanks Blitz! I feel terrible for her. And he is such a classy guy...very sad.

There is a new study out recently that strongly supports the use of swimming in dogs with DM. It can delay, but not completely stop or reverse the inevitable. It must be done appropriately for the other health issues the dog has, and overdoing it does not help.
There is a diet one vet recommends, but there is little to support that diet really can make a difference.

Private e-mail me if you want. I have an 11 year old male that was diagnosed at 4 years. He's still pretty mobile. We have a great yahoo support group. CH
