Since past two days, I have noticed my 8 months old female eating leaves and grass once in a while. What could be the reason for this. Her stomach appears to be fine since the stool is normal. Could it be related to the mild hurt she got some time back ( which has started healing).

You say once in a while...just how much is she actually ingesting?  My girl will eat anything and often grazes on the grass but she doesn't really eat that much.  She has never done the doggy ritual of eating grass then puking up green foam.  She just enjoys munching on grass from time to time.  Sounds normal to me unless she is really packing it in.

There was an article in Dogs in Canada this month as to why dogs eat grass and poop. They concluded it was normal.  What they did say that was interesting was that dogs self medicate.  Eating fibrous material may help purge intestinal parasites.  However, nothing is conclusive.  They may just do it because they are curious or because it tastes good!

Beckett likes dry leaves. He even sneaks them, since he knows I do not approve. Doesn't make him puke, he just seems to love the taste & crunch of them. Potato chips, anyone? jackie harris

I've never seen a dog that didn't eat grass, cats do it too.
I don't know of any major studies done on the cause of this behavior.
In summer you eat your greens....:)
