I was wondering why a owner breeder wants there kennel name at the front of the dogs name. Example would be Blackhill, then the dogs first name. She said she did not register her kennel name to much politic with AKC. The owner stated that if we decided to take one then we could name the dog and registered her. How should dog name be done correctly.

here are the AKC rules regarding 'registered' kennel names: http://www.akc.org/reg/kennelnames.cfm some kennels may choose not to do this. all the registering really does is prevent some other kennel from using the same kennel name. many breeders want their kennel names (registered or not) on their pups for a variety of reasons. however, when the buyer fills out the Dog Registration Application, red sections are specifically for the new owner to fill out. One of the red sections is the dog name. You, as buyer, are under no obligation to name the puppy the way the breeder wants. In fact, the Name of Dog section states "the registering owner has the right to name the dog". Of course, the breeder may request that the buyer use his/her kennel name, but it is NOT a requirement. If the breeder wants to ensure his/her kennel name is part of each pup's name, then all he/she needs to do is to individually register each pup with the name of choice. Once registered, the name cannot be changed, but obviously the buyer can *call* the pup whatever they like. ( the cost of individual registration is only $15 per dog, so if it's that important, the breeder should just go ahead and register them) hope you find this helpful.

Just to add to the above post, most breeders require the kennel name be in the registered name, I know I have it in the contract, if it is not done the contract becomes void.

Also, in most Am. Show lines it is usually Blackhill's Fido vs. German lines Fido vom Blackhill, all vom means is of, just to show the kennel the dog came from.

As VBK9 posted, I too choose the name of the dog and the kennel name must be part of the name, and it says so in the Purchase Agreement that I use. I will allow the new owner to choose a different first name, provided it starts with the correct character and is from my published list of names. They of course can use any call name that they wish. That is none of my business. I often wonder how many of my males are named "Jake"? Bob-O

So if we decide to go ahead and get one the blackhills an be fisrt then the call name, Thanks for that info... Then can I register on this site or does the breeder do this? I have not found the breeder dogs on this site yet. Sire is Khan vom haus Kuhn, and felmale is Kagneys vom haus Stronje. She also showe a pedigree too, going back 5 generations. We just want to make sure we buy from a good breeder and not support a puppy mill..

I am not familiar with this breeder so this is in no way directed at them, but any AKC registered dog has a 5 generation pedigree, AKC does not have breeding regulations nor do they require health screening, as long as the parents are registered you can register a litter. Just because the dog has a pedigree, it is definatly not an indicator of quality! Are the parents of the pups titled? Have they had their hips/elbows xrayed and certified with the OFA? Does your breeder provide references? All very important things to check into before purchasing a pup.
