What's your favorite pie? Toppings and crust style, who makes the best?

I have two favorites, polar opposite.
There's a pizza shop that hasn't changed a thing since my childhood - Campiti's in the small borough of Dormont, which abuts the City neighborhood where I grew up. My parents live in Dormont now, so I'm over there quite a bit. Thin crust, wonderful sauce (I don't like sweet sauce, so there are many pizza shops around that others rave about and I aviod. Sweet sauce is a southern Italian thing and my family comes from central Italy, guess that's where I get my taste). Campiti's has always used high quality ingredients and you can tell. They still hand-toss their dough and most of the guys that work there started while they were in High School. Mouse (Dom) treats his employees well and it shows!
The other is Beto's. They make square cut, wonderfully thich, tasty crust and their sauce is basically crushed tomatoes with very little spice. Then they bake the pizza with a little bit of cheese and once out of the oven, they pile on more cheese and toppings! It's different, very messy to eat and absolutely delicious!
I just had Beto's pizza last week and that's the first time in about 5 years. I wasn't disappointed!

I think we are spoiled for good pizza in CT. There are the greats, like Sally's and Pepes of New Haven, famous for their thin crust pizza, fresh tomato sauce and ancient brick ovens, but there are a gazillion pizza places to choose from, even in my town. I end up having certain favorite pizza's from different places. Like take Hawaiian pizza, every now and then I feel like a good Hawaiin pie, with just a touch of red sauce and cheese, but the difference is the good sliced ham and fresh pineapple. The texture is just better I think! And there is an art to it, you can tell when some clueless teen is making the pies, just by the careless porportions used.
Great pies have balance in all aspects!

Here we have Pizza Hut, Mazzio's, and an Italian place. They make great pizza. I like thick crust and my fave is all veggies but mushrooms. The more onions, olives and cheese the better. I think the Italian place is called Romanos. And Bee I like the Hawaiin pizza too. Mmmm I love pineapple and ham. I have never had any with sweet sauce and I think I'll pass on trying it................Mmmm I love pizza, you guys are making me hungry...............

vonissk, there are at least a dozen pizza houses in my cow town. None of them are a big chain. Only a few deliver. I didn't even count the "Italian" restaurants that might offer a pie. It is outrageous. I don't know how they all stay in business, but if they make a good pie, they do. Always room for more good pie!
Another favorite, since you like mushrooms, too, is with onions added. I'll even like 'em with onions and peppers. Preferably carmelized and sliced thin. Oh, and if your fellow eaters insists on meat, a touch of bacon works. Just be prepared to get up in the middle of the night for a cold glass of water. And this really is best as a thin crust pizza, because then you can eat more.

We have several chains to choose from here, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominos, Little Cesars but I prefer the little joint down the road, not even 5 minutes away. They don't deliver but it's worth going to get. Bob & Luigi's combo, the Luigi with bacon instead of ham. No choice in crust. Love 'em. I prefer pepperoni but my husband likes the combo so we get the Luigi with extra pepperoni! Damn...now I want a Luigi.

Here, we have Domino's. They deliver out here as far as the fire station up the road, so you we can meet the delivery guy there...they call when they leave the restaurant, give them a ten minute head start and meet at the same time. My favorite from Domino's is their thin crust Philly cheese steak pizza....yummm!!

Joanro: Wow and Really? We used to have a Domino's the next town over, but it is gone. I think when some of the other pizza places started offering delivery ... they lost out! How's that for complete opposite realities in the pizza access world?
This time of year, I have to mention another favorite; Marguerite pie. Fresh sliced homegrown tomato, olive oil, garlic and basil, and my favorite place adds toasted pignoli nuts at the end. Awesome pie, and eating it is a light feeling, there is no cheese, so with a thin crust, you can really eat more!
