Our female malinois has started to produce milk. She is by no means pregnant and never has been. She had her last heat in June. Would this be considered a false pregnancy?

Yeah I think it may be a false pregnancy. I would call your vet to see if you need to anything.

Oh NO! I hope not Steph LOL!

If she is pregnant she would have to be on that TV show "I didnt know I was pregnant." She is so lean that surely it would be impossible to miss a pregnancy. Im not sure if this is relavent, but when me and Cam returned home last week after being away for a month, he showed interest in her as if she was in heat. He done this for 2-3 days.

I had a female go through a false pregnancy once formed bags, milk the whole works. rubbed her breast with bag balm and she dried up in a few days.

we had a dobie female that when my oldest son was born, she started producing milk.

I took one into rescue, and she was producing milk. BUT, she was soooo lean and skinny I didn't think she could have been pregnant, and she was only about 9-10 months old, but guess what, I wish I would have waited, because she had the biggest single puppy I had ever seen in there. Darn, she would have whelped within a week....so sad, couldn't save it...darn...

Steph, from your description, that 10 month old girl wasn't in any shape to be successful in delivering such a huge puppy; it probably would have become stuck in the birth canal, you'd have had to rush her in for an emergency c-section, and not only would you likely have lost the pup, you could well have lost the 10 month old as well. No point in regrets...you saved the one you had in your hands, and that's the best you can hope for sometimes.

To the OP, it definitely is possible that she's having a false pregnancy, but there is ALWAYS a remote chance that a male could have gotten to her while she was in season, unknown to you, so it's worth taking her in to have an x-ray or ultrasound done to confirm she's open.

rtdmm....LOL, I've never heard of a dog going into sympathetic lactation for a human baby, guess she was there for backup just in case!
