CHEYENNE — The federal government will end protections for wolves in Wyoming, where the effort to revive the predator from near extinction in the United States began about 20 years ago.

The announcement Friday by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service endorses a plan that allows the wolves to be shot on sight in most parts of the state. It retains protections in certain areas.

Did I read it correctly, they are supposed to stop killing wolves when the number hits 52 within the year?  So, there are probably going to be 520 hunters hoping to be one of the "lucky" ones.

Yes, this makes me a little bit sickened.

The way I read it, licenses will no longer be issued after 52 kills, but I don't think that voids the licenses of those already issued.  I'll try to find clarification on it.  I agree, this sickens me too.

Hunting season will end once the quota is reached.  But 52 is still an quarter of the entire population
