My daughter rescued this puppy when she got off work one night. She's about 3 months old and had been abused but after being with us for the past 2 weeks she is warming up to us nicely. I thought she was a German Shepard but a friend said she looked like a Belgian Malinois. What do y'all think?

Color pattern reminds me of a mal. The shape of her head could be GSD as it appears thicker than mal. Tell your daughter thanks for rescuing her. Do you all plan on keeping her?

Yes, my daughter has already gotten really attached to her.

Now I think she looks like a GSD. Yes, I would say GSD. Whatever she is, she is adorable. Once again, thanks for keeping her. PLease keep us posted as she grows. Should be very interesting to see how she changes.

I know malinois when i see one and this definetly is a malinois, she looks exacly like the pups which came out of my litter, the same colouring. Malinois also can have big heads with time it will fade as te pup is growing, on my avatar pic is MY malinois boy at 10 months.

I can't really be sure from the picture, but here are some tips on deciding:GSD are longer and slinkier, often sloping to the back, and when they run, have a unique wave that goes down the spine. Mals are really leggy.
Mals tend to hold their ears forward, GSD ears are set higher and tend to hold them out to the side.
GSD often have a downward crook at the end of the muzzle.

Not too sure Jeff's definition of a GSD would accord with its Breed Standard ! (e.g. "Downward crook at
the end of the muzzle" ???)
Have you considered the very real possibility that the puppy is a first cross between a GSD and a Mali ?
