Any one have any plans on how to build a GSD size wheel for my one crazy girl to free exercise on?  I've seen them premade, but
they are pretty pricey. Thoughts and ideas anyone?

Thank you
Melissa

I'm not wanting to use it in place of training or exercise that I give her. She can run with the ATV (trot, canter gallop) for 10 miles and still play ball with the chuckit when we get home, and then do ob in the evening. She's just got way more stamina then I, so I would really like to build one of these, for the time when I can not devote 100% (lOL) of my time to her. I absolutely KNOW she would use it. We train 5 days a week and run 3-10 miles 5 days a week. tracking usually 1 day a week right now and protection 1-2 days a week. I swear she's not a Mali!

Google Martin Buser in Alaska. Some of those guys use hamster wheels for their sled dogs. He might be able to help.

This guy left some instructions
.....The steel frame is a spool used to bury underground cable. I used self tapping screws to fasten wood cross pieces. I then flexed 3/8 plywood and screwed the plywood to the cross pieces. Wasn't too tough of a project. Let me know if you have any other questions.

You also might try Doug Swingley in Montana.

beetree, the last video you posted "Phil on the wheel".....looks like a great wheel, all except for the crosspiece bars.  A dog could be seriously injured if it hit one of those bars while the wheel was in motion.  I've known of pet rodents who were decapitated by their hamster wheels that had bars like that.

the puppy and swimming pool is too friggen cute!

Do you think the wheel would still have enough support if you cut those cross members off? looks like a good, doable idea :)

The puppy is ADORABLE!!!

I need this thing:

I'd hook it to batteries and generate power for the house...
