A lot is being said these days about Chinese policy for allowing only one dog. Well, they had implemented one child family policy to the Chinese Public and it worked very well, but that doesnt mean that one dog policy is going to be that effective. Besides, not everybody keeps the dog. Its just only one dog policy but that one has to keep small breeds if at all he has to keep a dog. That is a problem which is scaring the small level breeders.

well, one cannot compare dogs to kids... the two policies are very different, but here applied quite mindlessly by the Chinese Govt! Not everyone breeds dogs!... and truely a very sorry picture for the smaller breeders... as it is generally the smaller breeders who produce the 'bigger' dogs! ...and what would become of our beloved breed as most of the top dogs from Germany go to China! some policy!

Is this "one dog" policy in effect now? What about the wealthy Chinese that have purchased a lot of the very best German dogs? What will happen to them? Or will it be one of those situations where money talks and the rest of the people are forced to obey the rule? Judy

Don't worry please. The Chinese GSD breeder hade big kennel far away the city. They have ability to breed the GSD.So,I think this Policy will not influence the GSD development in China.

I don't think I would sweat this one too much, as far as those wealthy enough to import some of the top dogs.  Historically, what looks like Communism on paper is not Communism in reality.  There are the elite or rich Communists and the rest of Communist citizens.  The former are not necessarily constrained by the "Party Line" principles or laws.  I would see it as having much more impact on the very small breeder living in those areas where the law is in effect.  Which is, to me, very sad.

The one child policy in China has been a success only in lowering population growth. I would never call the added abortion, abandonment, killing of infants and general hatred of females to be working well. Also the ratio of men to women in China is now 114 men to 100 women. This to me seems like a policy that is destined to fail at some point. I also do not see how it compares to owning only one dog? Robin
