I have had this evelope for over 20 years always thought it was neat because it had my two favorite breeds.  and was curious if any one knew ancient history on either of these kennels.

I do not. However, I think that is neat from a breed fancy point of view.

bcrawford, the dog on the envelope was typical of the working design of the German Shepherd of the day.  They were a much different breed at the time, design was function not form like it is today.  That dog could probably herd sheep morning til night.  Our dogs from today may look prettier to the eye but I bet that dog was a working machine.

Form is a part of function, they had and followed a breed standard and breed surveyed their dogs back then. Try to ignore it but conformation has always been part of what they were striving for.

Wow that is neat..................thanks for sharing.................wanted to add one thing that as far back as I believe 1906 the breed was already being split into working and show lines, according to Elliot Humphrey who was the trainer at Fortunate Fields...............I know everybody has heard of Pollux--he was described as a show dog.................then there were others that were described as working dogs.................
