I would like to ask the group why nobody suggests feeding Canned food as opposed to dry kibble.I have a 2 yr old that has been on the R/C GSD24 for 1 month and is scratching and biting.Im not sure if its the chicken or the soy isolate which is hydrolysed for better digestion.Would it not be better to feed cans as they are more fat and protein instead of all the grain in the dry? Thanks

If you think this is do to the RC take him off it. There are plenty other brands on the market to choose from. I always add canned food to my dry been doing it for years with no problems.

Domenic, the canned foods have a purpose, I guess. I don't feed canned food to the dogs on a regular basis, unless it is quite cold for several days and they need the extra fat and protein to keep the body warmer without weight loss.
I feed Royal Canin GSD Maxi 24 with no problems, but I must say that not every food is for every dog. Some need a diet that has a different blend so they have more fat. Most large breed adult dog food does not contain a lot of fat since many of the dogs have trouble digesting it effectively. But, every dog is a bit different, and some need a bit more fat in their diet.
Examine the fat content of some other premium brands and decide what you wish to try. With an adult you do not need to worry about the crude protein level so much, and if it climbs to 26% or even 28% then it should be of no consequence.
