My Shepherd is 17 Weeks old I'm starting to look at the Adult Large choices. I'm looking for a Grain Free food but it seem's every Grain Free food I find the protein is high. I've read so many posts about Grain Free and High Protein it has my head spinning.
I'm trying to take advise from many of the posts here because to me dog owners are the only true experts. Any suggestions or food that works best for you and your shepherd I would appreciate it if you would share your experienced opinion with me. Thanks

I feed grain free kibble (orijen) and I wouldn't worry about high protein! All wolves eat in the wild is 99% protein!! High protein won't cause any issues but things like a calcium/phosphorous ratio that is off will. So, go ahead and feed grain free kibble!! But, I would stick with puppy or one for all life stages versus a straight up adult food as that will have different analysis levels.....However, that is just my opinion! Good luck!!

You're wise to be careful. Look up the ones that are suitable for large breed puppies- STAY AWAY FROM TASTE OF THE WILD if you go "all life stages." Their formulas are WAY too high in calcium, all the supplements added are synthetic, and the dog's body cannot process them properly, leading to imbalances. TOTW's own vet even addressed this problem w/their food and large breeds.

Check out Victor Super Premium dog food. They have all life stages/ grain free.

My vet suggested when Maya was a puppy to only buy a grain free large breed puppy food. He said they are all based on the research done 10 years ago by Hills regarding proper levels of protein. I didn't know any better so I had her on a large breed puppy food ( can't remember which one ). I have since switched to Back to Basics and she is doing just fine. She was diagnosed with EPI at 9 months and had pano pretty bad, so I simply gave up and researched myself the various good quality grain free low fiber dog food, make a stew once a week, and fell in love with the ingredients in Back to Basics.

My pup is on Orijen LB puppy as well, she has a gorgeous, soft, shiny coat.

TOTW has been an excellant food for both of my adult dogs. It solved all the allergy issues with my male and i use the puppy formula for my pups and they look fantastic. A breeder recommended to me after Blue Buffalo and the Royal Canine just wasn't getting it done....just my 2 cents

feed the dog raw food diet! All the processed dog food is not the best for a dog! A dog needs meat, some veggies,milk, egg, fruit and meat again! organ meat like heart, liver etc. and good bones (raw)! Never cooked!
