Any recommendations on an ointment for elbow callouses? This is for my boy Trigger. He has a small callous on each elbow. They never bothered him until he was shaved 3 weeks ago. I' m thinking they might have nicked one of them with the clippers as he keeps licking on it. He's an inside dog so spends his time on carpet or grass when he goes out. I'd like to treat the callous before it gets nasty. I'm thinking maybe an anti-biotic cream?

Try Mushers ... you can buy it in any of the upscale pet stores...its not bad.  Try that first.  Animax or Panalog are a good choice if they get infected, just tape up.  Does he have them on both elbows? Just watch him to make sure he's not throwing himself down on the floor, causing them...one of my dogs does this and now has a hygroma which was drained too many times, infected numerous times, and now is undergoing laser treatments for them in lieu of surgery.  Is it more on one side or the other, or equally the same on both sides? The Mushers is also good for the pads of the feet to put on before the dog goes outside in the snow...helps with salt and hot street "tar."  But its always best to keep both handy (both RX's)...Panalog is the generic to Animax same, but cheaper.  Try the Mushers first.  I have something here but its a sulfur creme, I have used that in the past for things like this, another option as well.  Good luck:)

Thanks VomHK, I'll try your suggestions. My dog not only throws himself on the floor, but sounds like a herd of elephants running through the house He wakes me up at night when he moves around, especially when he slams himself up against the front door. I thought it was only my dog that did that. Not good for those callouses. The vet didn't think they were infected but figured I best start treating them before they are.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer. I found it at the health food store. I bought about a 24oz jar for about $5. It looks like Crisco so don't be alarmed lol. It liquefies as soon as you rub it in. I saw this video the other day on another thread. It works great for dogs too.

I put Bag Balm on my dogs elbow callouses but now I'm going to go get some coconut oil.

That is a great tip for feeding pills, too... I'm actually thinking about my cat! The one that rips his fur out all the time, hmmmmm. I think I will try this coconut oil, too!

I doubt coconut would work on my boy Trigger for pills. He won't even take a raw hamburger ball if he thinks there might be a pill inside. Or liver. Or anything. Fool him once and he will disect everything I give him for the next month.

I just bought a jar of coconut oil.  My female likes it but my male turns his nose up at it.  I put a little in his mouth so he could taste it and he spit it out.
