How many sable colors are there. I always thought that there were light colored sable and dark sables. Then I heard the term black sables, made sense alot more black in them then sable yet they are not really black and tan as thought of typically. Then I just saw an ad for red sables. So how many sable color variations are there officially and non officialy. This is just out of curiosity, not picking on anyone, I get alot of sables in my litter and wanted to know what is considered acceptable or common in describeing Sables.

I have seen an unusual red sable...so red that he was almost as red as an Irish Setter, but with black guard hairs. I don't know if this one qualifies for mahogany sable or not. I used to tease his owners that their dog glowed in the dark, he was so colorful. Beautiful dog.
Silver sable, washed out sable, sable that is almost a black and tan, but the "saddle" part has lighter colored undercoat.
