If you have Costco membership, the Kirkland chicken based pup food is good. It is rather rich in protein and moderate in fat and only moderately high in calcium.
One common characteristic of dry kibble is low fat, moderate protein, and rather high calcium. One can only pick one that has only moderately higher than ideal in calcium.
Never feed a GSD pup free choice. Food intake must be regulated to achieve a lean pup.

A recall does not discredit a company for good.
I am sticking with Kirkland. Very good for the price.

WOW ......... I agree it does not discredit a company for good food as Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance was also under recall and they are a good food .....BUT that is not the issue here ..... how many dogs have died from bad food to initiate the recalls? Many ....to damn many .....
Now, if you want to continue to use their food...the only thing you are doing is playing russian roulette with your dog every time you feed them .....
Diamond Brand has had about 5 recalls in the last 6 yrs in which 100's of dogs and cats have perished........ I dont have a 10 dollar dog so I guess I might be a little more concerned
Here is the list I would recommend to stay away from :

People, try to understand the ramifications of it all.

Beetree....I beg to differ ...over the past 6 yrs their recalls have been the cause of 100's of Dog and Cat deaths ....can you debunk this claim?
