pre hip xray opinions please - Page 1

10mt old female sorry about picture quality

Our right side of the screen probably her left hip there looks like there has already been some remodeling and not seated in the socket very well, would like to see the socket and femur fit deeper and a tighter fit.

Other hip (left side of our screen) looks better as far as the depth of the socket, however very hard to tell from this x-ray as it is very dark.

Overall I would say mild-moderate HD.  Best of luck with her,  Nan

PS:  Has she had some sort of repair done on her right side?  I see some kind of metal??  JUst curious.  BOL.  Nan

Well JOhn:  If I had to grade these right now at 10 months I would have to say moderate HD.  That would be worst case scenario.  BUT due to her age I would not send these in now, keep building up her muscleing maybe swim her, soft sand runs NO JUMPING until 2 years old if you are going to OFA, SV can be graded at 1 year however, I would try to improve these before that is done if at all possible.

Probably would not count on this bitch for breeding and light work would be best.  Good luck  Nan

i am with Nan on these xrays  , i will say mild HD and by 2 years they will be even worse. the hip on  the right side is already showing changes , while  the left side looks like a good hip. the way i see the xray looking at it which i know would be the oppsite side for the dog. if you have a better picture this would help to make sure of what i am seeing.

I agree completely with Nan, not a good set of hips, sorry!  They won't pass OFA as is/

don't despair, john.  if you love the dog, you can manage this.  keep the dog lean and fit.  low impact.....walk, walk, walk.  swimming is good too.  good muscle tone will go a long way in holding it all together.  don't allow the dog to jump out of a truck or suv, they are too high off the ground.  i recommend a good, thick bed for the dog.  we used a babycrib mattress for one of our dogs.  now that you know what you have, you can deal with it.  our dog had a worse hip than yours and still lived to 12 and a half.  he was an awesome dog and worth every bit of the effort.  wish you & the dog the best.  :)
