I am sorry if this is a re-post, I am not on here much, but I was sent this link... http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=126_HB_606 about new law that is being formed against anyone who houses more than 8 dogs. It is long, but important information. I would be intersted in hearing how people from Ohio think this will shake out.
The sign of things to come all over.
will they limit the legislature to only 8 illegal acts a year?
Well, it seems the Buckeye State wants to set a serious precedent here. I read the entire bill and while I definitely see some legally-defined goodwill (no disagreement there) intended towards dogs, I wonder why we must have yet another governmental entity CREATED and EMPOWERED to become involved in the taxation and regulation of the breeding, boarding, and shelter of dogs. Can you say "Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money!?" I bet the State of Ohio's Department of Commerce is doing just this.
The First Redundancy: We already have Federal and State laws for the prevention of cruelty (of course always subject to legal interpretation) to animals.
The Second Redundancy: The creation of an administratice staff, as well as a staff of canine officers who possess the legal authourity of a deputy sheriff. Now, that's scary and 100% redundant. Are we not already paying the sherrif's men to do their sworn duty? Now it seems that the citizens of Ohio will pay some of them twice.
If I were an Ohio taxpayer, the big question that I would ask is "Will this government entity become self sufficient from registration fees alone, or will it cost every taxpayer a bit more money? I did not see a financial impact statement tagged to the bill, as is required in many states. It may well be written-just not visible on the website of the Ohio General Assembly.
The Third Redundancy: So now a boarding facility, small kennel or larger kennel must secure a surety bond representative of the amount of their liability. Do we not already have civil property laws and civil proceedings described for these things?
Essentially, a bill that once passed by houses and signed by the State Governor will become law and be subject to further legal interpretation when aplied through enforcement.
I probably sound as if I am on a rant, but know me by my involvement as a representative for two (2) state motorcyclists' rights organizations who occassionally sees similar "goodwill and fundraising" legislation directed towards those who choose to ride a motorcycle. If I will say anything to the citizens of the Buckeye State, I say it is IMPERATIVE for them to contact their appropriate state senator and state representative and urge them to vote against the passage of this bill. The names of the bill's sponsors are published at the top, and they are the ones responsible for taking this to the current level. It's too late for these instigators-just vote them out of office when they run for their next term.
K9 Solutions Center, there is no apology needed for such a post. This is the kind of material that needs to be presented to the GSD world (and canine world in general) so that awareness can be made and possible action taken. Thank you for the post.

Thank you for the heads up!
Stephanitz...LOL...limit em to 8 illegal acts a year huh? that'd be great! we've got this Ney scandel and Noe scandel and drug investigations and all kinds of stuff going on all the time...how much less news would be in our newspapers if our government officials stopped commiting crimes!
Anyhoo...another stupid animal restriction bill...please Bob-O...rant all you want about em, we're all sick of them. Our animal cruelty laws ARE enough! now if they would just enforce them!
We already have animal control officers who have the legal authority of a deputy officer to make arrests and carry their issued guns and etc.
Thank you for the post, K9 Solutions Center.
From a Buckeye,
Courtney
GO BUCKS!!!
While they posture and pose, very little of what politicians do has any connection to doing good or solving problems. More often than not the motive is to pander to special interest groups and show off for the electorate while shoveling money to the bureaucrats and making everything we do more complicated without ever solving the supposed problem.
No surpise here. Just one more act in an ongoing script by the globalist one-worlder socialists in their quest to take away all our freedom and rights. These are the same type of folks (petty, power mad bureacrats) that run the national education association (nea), many gov't agencies, organized medicine, psychology and psychiatry. They say they want to help us, but its a big lie, since they really want to totally control us and take tax money and fees from us to generate an even bigger bureacratic and facist government. Like the esteemed Barry Goldwater once replied when he was asked why he was against big gov't so much and only in favor of state's rights, not creeping federalism. He replied, "any gov't big enough to provide for all your needs will be powerful enough to take everything you have, and probably will!". The socialist/facists want to take our dogs away from us too, can you believe that. They want to control every aspect of our lives while telling the us lie that they want to take care of us cradle to grave". They just want more and more control of anything and everything and make up phony reasons why to con and minipulate the public, most of whom are gullible and easily conned. Why then have these folks who supposed want to help the citizens spent all our social security escrow funds, leaving most of us scheduled to get nothing in 5-10 years??? Nuf said, but folks better stand up and fight this stuff at a state and local level or their will be no GSD breeders left and very few dogs. Some of these self-righteous groups made up of exceedingly sick individuals want to outlaw all GSDs stating they are "vicious" like pit bulls. Nuff, said about these disgusting freedom robbing folks.
Being a citizen of Ohio and a retired police officer, who hates how some I have met, have treated their dogs, I understand what may be the motivation of some of this proposed legislation. Of course, the major reason for this proposal is (how did Bob-O put it, oh yea), Mo Money, Mo Money. I know the laws of the State of Ohio very well. There are no loop holes that would allow someone to mistreat or fail to provide care for, a dog. No more laws are needed. The ones already on the books just need to be enforced, and they rarely are. The only time they are enforced is if a certain case gets on TV, then it becomes a big deal (for a day or two). The new jobs that will be created by this proposed legislation will be filled through the patronage system, just like the license plate personnel. Whoever gets into the Governors office will "reward" their "grass roots" workers with these jobs and they will not be people that should be running around with guns, badges and authority as stated in the proposal. Is there anyone that believes it is now okay for someone to mistreat or fail to provide care for a dog? The answer is no. And the reason the answer is no, is because of the laws already on the books. So why this legislation? Money or stupidity? As usual with politicians, a lot of both.
This has HSUS written all over it, in my opinion. I went to an Expo of their a few years ago, and Wayne Pacelle was in a room, telling everyone about grassroots lobbying, how bills are made and so forth. He openly solicited volunteers and said he wanted to form two captain-led teams for each senatorial district in the US. This is how they make the appearance of "grassroots" lobbying, i.e. locally based. In reality, it is all directed by Washington DC lobbying groups. In my opinion, HSUS is trying to organize and grow the animal control / humane industry, and guess how that is going to happen!.. By making more work, of course! More work, more money and more bureaucracy. This will change the ownership of dogs to something that is subject to intrusion by government bureaucratic bullies and a matter of privilege for insiders.
By the way, since we are talking to some Ohioans, has anyone there any information as to the whereabouts or final disposition of a bitch named, "Gerda Schutzengel"? Maybe information on any puppies? Her sire was Asco vom Rauberhauptmann, and her dam was Annah vom Haus Gebets. She would be now about seven or eight years old. I was told that she died, but I never believed it. I suspect that she was sold, probably overseas. Very nice black and red bi-color bitch, low-stationed, stocky and active, happy personality. She was with Nancy Sutton at one time. I would appreciate any informtation. Thanks!
