For those who might not remember, Bear was the GSD I adopted off Craigslist last November. He had to be put down this morning due to congestive heart failure. He was in pretty rough shape this morning and I couldn't let him suffer anymore. I wonder if the previous owners knew about his bad heart? The symtoms started showing up shortly after I got him, but I didn't recognize them at first. I thought it was just the stress of a new home. At least he got to spend the last 10 months of his life with people who loved him.

Sorry to hear about Bear! I do remember how happy you were to open your home to him. Sorry that his story had to end so soon, with you. RIP Bear.

10 months is a long time to a dog. What is wonderful is that they were the most recent 10 months in his life and so clearest in his mind and heart. RIP bear, glad you had your happy times with someone who loved you.

I had to watch my boy Murphy have a heart attack in my backyard last summer and just couldn't go through that again. Talk about heart wrenching. The vet thought with meds I might have been able to nurse Bear along for a few more months, but I couldn't watch another dog die like that. Bear could hardly walk this moning, falling over and runnning into walls. Plus all the coughing and wheezing and he had also stopped eating. It never gets any easier whether you have them for 10 years or just 10 months.

I am so sorry to hear about Bear. At least he knew what it meant to be loved and well-cared for, even if it was only for 10 months. I'm sure they were the best months of his life. You did the right thing letting Bear go. It was your last gift of love to him. God speed beloved Bear

triodegirl, I'm sorry to hear you had to send Bear up the path ahead of you...It never gets any easier, and it never hurts any less, but you gave that fellow 10 months of solid love, and that's what he carried with him when he crossed the Bridge.   Revel in your refound health and vigor, Bear, as you wait for triodegirl to join you one day.

God bless you and keep you well for doing such a good deed.

You gave Bear a happy loving life for as long as he could live it.  Before you took him home, life may not have been so good.  What would his life and passing have been if it wasn't for your intervention.  He was a llucky boy.

You let him go peacefully and lovingly, when he really needed it.

He went to heaven a very happy boy.

Michele, Pharaoh and Mariah
