Posting on Yellowrose's Ice Cream thread brought back a lot of old 4th of July memories, & I wondered if anyone else misses the old days & old time celebrations, & would like to share their memories....? For those who do not celebrate the 4th, your cherished summertime memories would be wonderful to share as well!
I remember sitting on my grandparents shady porch on a hot summer's eve, sitting in my grandfather's huge rocker, & being given a wedge of watermelon cut long-ways, & how sweet & cool it was, & how my grandmother would fuss if the juice got on my frock...I must always wear a cotton summer dress when I visited Granma on the 4th!
I remember taking my own babies to the local high school & picnicing on the lawn by the football field while the band played the 1812 Overture & the deep BOOM & swoosh as they sent off the first missiles in time with the music, & how my babies would startle until they saw the sparkles. Then they would laugh! Good times!
Anyone else?

I cannot recall any specific memories associated with the 4th of July, but I do recall summers playing kick-the-can, riding my pony to Dairy Queen and riding skate boards made from old roller skates! I climbed a lot of trees, too and enjoyed reading a book while nestled on a big branch! It is kind of sad, but I don't think kids have the same opportunities to be out after dark, to make up their own games without an organization,, or taking the same risks.

Kelibeck I like you miss the heck out of the old days. My days were a lot like yours I guess. especially sitting around my grandparents front porch eating watermelon. All my family played music so there were always guitar playing going on. Sometimes there would be a dozen or more playing music, singing and having a good time. It was hotter than heck where I was raised, The San Juaquin valley in Ca. between Fresno and Bakersfield, so we looked for shade anywhere we could find it.
Davren, I made alot of those skate boards out of a 2X4 and old skates also.
