Have you ever used the same name for a dog twice?
Personally, I never would, because for me that name belongs specifically to one particular dog.
However, I knew an older lady whose last four dogs have all had the same name, and she explained because it was easier for her to remember. :)

We have a dog come in to our clinic whose name is Dude Two. That's because they had a previous Bichon, whose name was Dude, and they loved that dog. When the dog died, they got Dude Two. Same breed. I'm with you, I personally don't think I could do that. It's like naming my babies all the same name :)

Perhaps somehow it eased their sense of loss. (At least he had a double-barrelled name) LOL.
But no dog is a clone, so (for me) their name is their's.

I have someone who is naming their pup they get from me "Lucky"
They said they have used the same name for 60 years.
I myself enjoy thinking up different new names.
I did know someone who named their pup the same name as their last dog
which lived to be 12 years old....
their pup got hit & killed by a car, then I saw them with their new pup, and
almost was afraid to ask what his name was, it was actually a totally different
name....I guess the third time wasn't a charm for them....
Remember the movie with John Wayne in it & his dog was named "Dog"
Now there's a name you can't forget!

I also like to use different names. All dogs are individuals and different personalities. It seems somehow not right- to my thinking- to recycle the same name over and over again. Then again, I don't mind the people who choose to do that. To each their own.

60 years???? So just wondering when the couple are chatting about their dogs, and say:
"Do you remember Lucky"?
"Which Lucky"?
"The one before the one before the one before ......"!!
No, unfortunately I don't recall a John Wayne film with a dog. But at least that name is better than what became popular in the UK for a while .... Deefar (D for Dog)!

Aw - I always liked 'Deefer'.
Everyone seems to have taken this as meaning the pet name. I can think of one breeder who seems to have used the same registered name for a dog they have kept and shown, about three times now (either that, or he's a VERY old dog !). Dunno if they used different names at home. Apparently the KC haven't spotted it / can't refuse it ?

My parents divorced when I was 8
My fathers new wife liked my name and named one of her twin sons the SAME. She at least changed the middle name of the second twin so he only had my younger brothers first and last name. My mom remarried and we both had our last names legally changed anyway but it was Very weird ;-)

What an odd thing to do. (I presume you and your brother were living with your Mum at the time). Did you ever ask your Step-Mum or Dad about the repeat names?

[For readers of UK dog press] The columnist Robert Killick had a brother called ... Robert Killick. Go figure !
