Does anyone know at what age the SV allows final hips x-rays to be done to receive an "a" stamp? I have heard rumors that it is before 24 months. Does anyone know if this is true? Thank you

The dog must be 12 months..no other requirements. It has a minimum not a maximum.

yes kathy they are rite, dont go crazy over hip ratings there are many other things to be considered besides hip ratings, inclusive of health and temperament and working abilities.

I found an interesting table on the OFA site that compares 'fast normal' with 'borderline' OFA. This means that a fast normal dog would not get an OFA number IF this comparison accurately represents the majority of submissions for fast normal dogs. http://www.offa.org/hipgrade.html

I am wondering how acurate these ratings can be at 12 months if the hips aren't completely fused until 24 months according to my vet. Any input?

OFA takes X rays at 24 months or older for final results.

gsdlvr2, seems that this is almost like having a pre-lim done.

by gsdlvr2 on 01 November 2006 - 23:11

immyjay, exactly, but how can that be? Must be something I am missing here.

The OFA takes hips at 24 months the SV at 12 months. The battle over which is more effective will never be settled due to zealots on both sides. There are cases of both OFA and the SV not reaching the same conclusion on an xray. I believe there is research that shows that a very low percentage sub 4% that are xrayed at 1 yr change.
