Well, I'm pretty sure a lot of people have done this. I'm just curious on how the experience went. Did your female get pregnant? Did you ship her or use frozen semen?

I live in the U.S. and was thinking about sending my female to Czech Republic to get bred.

While i myself have not had this done. It's seems much more economial to ship frozen semen then a whole live dog.
I personally would never hand over my dog to strangers. How do you know the dog you want to breed to is the dog she is actually bred to? How do you know the people handling the dog will take care of her as you would? I've way too parinoid to let my girls go off to strange places with people that speak strangely and hope the care for my dog. (nothing against non english speakers or even english speaker with a foreign accent, but i do think the dog would notice)
If it were me, send me a little frozen package to my Repo vet and wish for all the best!

Yes and quite often. Frozen, chilled, and AI are NOT options.

It's very simple. All you have to do is send your female over. Be sure to arrange the shipping correctly and have someone there you trust pick her up at the airport. There may/may be broker fees involved. There may/may not be taxes or deposits required upon arrival.

Be sure to have her timed correctly and hope the trip and change of enviornment do not upset her cycle. Whoever you have entrusted her with will need to help you in this respect. They will also need to arrange the stud. Since the exact breeding day is not known, prepare to be flexible. Pick the stud of your choice. Have a backup and a second backup just in case. Be prepared to explain in a nice way how the top male you have selected as #2 and #3 were not the first choice. Start practicing now so it sounds convincing. Do not be disappointed when the male does not want to breed your female and you have to travel to male #2. Do not be disappointed when your female is passed over last minute for another female.

Remember studs are accessable all over Germany. It will be an additional cost to get your dog to the stud. This is in addition to the expense to get her from the airport to whomever you have keeping your female and doing all the testing's house. They then have to go to the stud. Fuel is about 6 bucks a gallon and they may need to take a day or two off of work (it's customary to reimburse them for their lost wages plus, travel, and the hotel)

You get one tie with the stud so hope your female didn't slip a day or two in her cycle from the change in enviornment and hope the vet was right on the day she needed to be bred. (Don't forget to pay the vet fees too)

After the breeding you have to ship her back. There's the vet certificate, trip to the airport, shipping fees and possibly a brokerage fee.

Now that you are fortunate enough to have a litter on the way,,,,maybe. Would you like to know what happens next?

we are handling these kind of things in europe, transport, breeding and boarding , frozen semen is very expensive and I know of quite a few cases where the frozen sperm didnot deliver pups, if you want more info Delta, I can send you info in a pb.

I'm interested in what happens next. Maybe it is your writing style, but I'm totally captivated.

Bee, you crack me up :) !! I'm also totally captivated and want to hear what's next. Bet it has to do with the complexity of registering the litter ?

by joanro on 24 June 2012 - 17:06

Delta, being that so many of the best Czech dogs have made their way here to the states, you could probably do better finding a quality stud dog stateside.

What percentage of stud owners will use the semen from a different stud for AI or bitches shipped for breeding?

Very low I think.

I think the penalty is VERY serious, like banned for life.

DNA test can show, eventually.
