Are the parents of the dog AKC registered?

If the Sire & Dam are AKC Reg. You have to ask the Breeder for either the Litter Reg. Appl. or the actual Reg. Unless they where sold with out AKC Reg . for a reason, other wise you can't Reg. with the AKC.

On the other hand if the dog is not for show, but a pet or only for working sports of some sort, and or is spayed/neutered then yes. You can apply for a single dog registeration. This type of paperwork is so average people and title their pets that the train for obedience or agility type sports.
But not for breeding.

This link may be helpful.
I know many people who show both AKC and UKC with the same dog. You may hv=ave to do a little research with your friend to see if the dog is really of registration status.
Good luck with her new dog.

well no the puppies parents are not AKC registerd they are both UKC registered and i explained to my friend that u can't register them unless the parents are AKC i beleive i honestly don't know the breeder, so i don't know  if ur able to do it or not exactly but anyhow sooooo if the parents aren't AKC then u can't register i guess she can't register him for AKC.

Even if the puppy's parents are not AKC registered, but all four of the grandparents are,  there is a good chance AKC may register the puppy.  I know that under these conditions AKC will register a dog that is CKC registered. Of course there is some paperwork and verification that AKC will need.  Might be time consuming.  I personally had experience with this issue. Someone I know was able to get their puppy registered this way with AKC.   Since UKC seems to be more respected and acknowledged than CKC, I would certainly give it a try.

Hope this helps. If you need more info, PM me, I will be glad to help if I can.

edited to add:   I am talking about the Continental Kennel Club, NOT Canadian Kennel Club
