Kaffirdog

by Kaffirdog on 14 June 2012 - 15:06

Last Sunday a lady asked us to take in a GSD, she had bought him a couple of days earlier and nothing the seller said about him was true, he was not good with her cats, the seller would not respond to her calls. and she simply couldn't keep him.  He duly arrived with all his paperwork, chip etc and I had no doubt the lady was genuine, but something kept niggling me.  The seller said he had originally been rescued and I was thinking along the lines of him being on an adoption contract, don't really know why since all his papers were with him, but I just felt something was not right with the seller and made some enquiries, he was chip registered to the address he was collected from, the breeder knew nothing of the owners wanting to part with him and I was pretty much at a dead end so about to offer him for rehoming.

The mystery was solved today and the truth is your worst nightmare.  His owners had gone away for Thursday to Sunday and left the dog at home with a housesitter, came home to be told the dog had run away.  After the sitter left, they found numerous household items missing, computer, xbox etc and it was just luck that someone on a rescue group contacted me when the owners put him on Doglost and we realised this dog and theirs were one and the same.  A two hour drive for the owners, but a very happy reunion this afternoon, they were lucky to ever see that dog again.  The bastard must have put the dog up for sale as soon as the owners were out of the door!

Will just mention I don't know who the sitter was, probably not a pet sitting agency, but a reminder to check thoroughly first if you ever intend to use a sitter.

What a nightmare. I would be horrified if this happened to me. The blood hunt would be on (sorry, things like this really get to me and the Texan anger comes out) I am so thankful it turned out well for the owner.

What a scum bag! The xbox can be replaced, but not the dog!

I'm so glad they got their pet back. How awful can people be?!

So lucky! I don't use housesitters unless I know them personally, and in that case could easily track them down... With my pups, if I can't bring them wherever I'm going, they stay with my trainer or my breeder.

I take my dog with me or I don't go.  What a nightmare!!  So glad you were vigilant and got him back home where he belonged.  Kudos to you and that sixth sense niggling at you.

I thought that was going to be another Tim Helser story.

What a terrible thing to happen, thank heavens it worked out how it did OMG. Sixth sense is a wonderful thing Margaret N-J ! Lucky owners, and lucky dog!

Where I go my dogs go, end of.  They can't go, I don't go! If I have to go into the hospital, they are at home with my OH.

I am lucky to have very good friends with kennels if I really needed it, but it would be my last resort (no slur on my friends who I trust implicitly), where I know they would be safe.
But the safest place as far as I am concerned is with me, and it is only then that I am truly at peace.

Didn't even check out that link BoCRon.
