Im always amazed at the level of understanding and compassion that dogs have shown man and other life throughout the years. Lets celebrate those stories here. Personal or public post away, lets teach that our dogs are more then just a piece of furniture by their actions.

DOG save newborns life.

June 6, 2012

Left alone in a hostile environment, the baby did not have to fend for itself – it was saved by a local farm dog. A loyal canine has earned hero status after he was found cradling an abandoned baby that he had spent the night protecting. According to authorities, a two week old child was discovered under a bridge in Winkongo, near Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital of Ghana, after being forsaken by its mother.

Officials say the two were found together many hours after the dog went missing. A search party spent the night combing area fields and forests in pursuit of the wandering canine, but it was not until morning that they made a stunning discovery when they found him under the bridge, near the farm, with a human baby nuzzled against him.

The remarkable tale was reported by Madam Rosemary Azure, Talensi-Nabdam District Director of Health, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

According to Madam Azure, the chief of police said the vulnerable youngster had been abandoned by its mother for reasons unknown before being saved by the dog. His umbilical cord was still uncut and had been infected, but the young child was otherwise unscathed after spending the night with the protective canine.

A local health directorate has taken custody of the child until a new home can be found for him.

Just in 2012.

If people are going to try and distort the facts to fit their position, please be so kind to hide the evidence from plain view. 242 people as posted have not been killed this year. As usual people are distorting fact to fit their position that dogs are like lawn chairs and can be disposed of at will. Do edit the comment to reflect fact.

Hachiko, man's most loyal friend

You should probably prepare yourself for a sad dog story, because this one's a doozy. In 1924, a professor Hidesaburo Ueno from the University of Tokyo brought his dog, Hachiko, to live with him. The two developed a routine, where the dog would see the professor off at his home and then meet him at the Shibuya train station later. Then one day, the professor didn't show up at the train station. He'd had a stroke at the university and died. Hachiko was given away to another owner, but he would often escape and turn up at his old home. The dog must have eventually realized that Ueno wasn't coming home, and so he went to look for him at the train station. For ten years, Hachiko would arrive at the train station exactly when the evening train showed up and would wait for his former owner. Other commuters noticed the loyal pooch and began to bring him food and snacks. He even gained national attention when a former student of Ueno's published several articles about him. One artist even built and erected a bronze statue of the dog while he was still alive. Hachiko died in 1935, but his legend continues to live on in Japan. His story was even recently made into a film, with Richard Gere playing Professor Ueno.

This may be slightly off topic, but apparently that is allowed.  How about children who have been raised by wild animals, like wolves?  Pretty amazing stories to be found on the internet about feral children such as the one below:

I also love humor to illustrate a point gg. Not off topic at all. I also feel humor should be allowed on all subjects.  Yes dogs have in some cases had to brunt the responsibility of rearing children. That is a good example real life. Pretty sad though.

I have edited the post that you are complaining about, my how we are getting very petty.

From now on when complaining about something in a thread hit the abuse button and quit making a spectacle out of every little thing and quit playing games with the admins.

You know Ninja, dogs can be a danger to humans.  Since we are discussing the relationship humans have with dogs and since I'm interested in feral children raised by wild dogs.  Wouldn't it be fascinating to look at how feral dogs affect humans?  Below is an interesting video on feral dogs in the U.S.

Yes GG they can be a danger to humans. Very interesting video.

I was attacked by a pack of dogs when I was around 19. I had been playing hockey with a bunch of friends and it was getting dark and everyone was leaving. I had parked on the opposite side of the pond and was headed back to my car alone. About 6 dogs circled around me and were trying to bite me. I was lucky I had several hockey sticks with me. I swung them around like a helicopter blade just a few inches above the snow covered ice. They kept trying to lunge at me but were affraid of the sticks. After about ten minutes they took off.
