Pedigree Generation/Kennel Records Sofware - Page 1

OK...Its time to consider buying some specialized software to keep kennel, breeding, competition & sales/expenditure records, and, HOPEFULLY generate "web-friendly" pedigrees (read: end product saved in popular file format such as pdf., jpg, ???) without having to cut & paste text into frames that never seem to turn out right, perhaps even pedigrees with pix, like the ones on this site? Last time I checked out kennel software was in 1996, and it all pretty much sucked... very rudimentary, lots of manual data input, no "search" capabilities for anything, not customizable (is that a word???) Surely some dog-afficionado software geniuses out there have managed to write at least one slick application for GSD fans by now, right? Advice apppreciated! Thanks, Shelley

Shelley, for the kennel ledger (as well as personal financial and engineering ledgers) I stick with what I have used for years, Microsoft Excel. It is not good for the generation of pedigrees since it does not have a powerful database function. However, it can be used to import and manipulate data from databases that are designed to work with it. Which ones? Maybe the maker of the software for the pedigrees can answer that one.
