I have a 9yr old female German Shepherd. Over the last couple of months she needs to go outside to poop about 8 or 9 times a day. It's not diarrhea just normal stool. I've tried cutting back on her food but it hasn't changed. She has been tested for worms, coccidia, giardia and all came back negative. She seems to be licking and bitting around her backside more then usually. Any suggestions?

A partial bowel blockage is a possibility. If she was my dog, I'd take her to a vet and ask about an abdominal x-ray. I'm sure others here will come up with some suggestions as well.

Did the vet check her anal glands?

First question....what are you feeding her??  Is is filled with additives and fillers?

If there's/are no underlying health issue(s), i'll suggest that you change her food. I fed my bitch with a certain brand of "dry food" and it makes her pooh nearly every-now-and then. I stopped and i am happy i did.

I am not one to push any brand of dog food, however, I have switched over to the grain free Back to Basics dog food.  My shepherd is doing really well on it, in case you needed a suggestion.

She is currently being feed The Science Diet.. She had the same probelm when I was feeding her another type of food. I switched to the sciemce diet and the problem continued.

Oh Yuck. Science diet is one of the worst, vet pushed foods you can feed.

I would definately switch... have had several K9s come in on that stuff and they also pooed a lot.

She was doing the excessive pooping even before I switched to The Science Diet. Since the problem continued I didn't think it was the food. I'm starting to notice she is paying a lot of attention to her backside. Sometimes she will be laying down and jump up like she got scared and start to look at her backside.. It's like she heard a noise from her backside.

Have her checked for perianal fistulas.
