I am looking for ideas or thoughts on starting a new schutzhund club ?

by workingdogz on 04 June 2012 - 17:06

Start putting out some online ads, contacting your
area breed clubs, other working dog clubs etc.

You will be slow going, but all you need is about
3-4 core members and you will grow from there.

Contact your regional director (you will have to be
a member of USCA or WDA etc). Start looking for
an experienced training helper. Visit area pet stores,
leave some advertising flyers. Try to get ahold of
your closest State Trooper K9, City/County PDK9 etc.

Be prepared to have patience. It takes a long time
and dedication to build a club. And having some $$
helps too ;)

If you can secure a permanent area to train in, all
the better. Once your new club has a 'home', you
will start to draw more visitors.

I would ask why you want to start a new club?  Do you not have one in your area?

Do you know anything about schutzhund would be my 2nd question?

1. securing a location.
2. You will need liability insurance

3. If you do have experience in schutzhund - you will need organizational skills - training skills - helper skills - and you will need members.  If you don't have experience in schutzHund - or for that matter running a club - you will need someone to help you that has experience.

4.  Equipment....

5.  Money!!!!

These are just to start..............

Thanks for all the great input . I'll see if I can answer a few the questions ...

I was thinking of the Florida panhandle area...

I will check with an insurance agent and get their input...

I know a lil bit about the sport , Not much though.....

Equipment is another thing...New costs lots of $$$....What about possible donations of used stuff ???

Once I get the basic idea going , advertise a lil bit , ...then members...

Thanks again.....Shawn

Most schutzhunders will bring their own dogs,
but if you want, you can buy them for them
