Now starts the sad part. ----------- The puppies will be going to their new homes (those that do not stay with me). The first puppy will be a working herd dog; going to a sheep ranch in the panhandle of Texas this up coming weekend.. I will take 3 of the pups on Friday for final decision. Any suggestions on what to look for at 7 weeks for the best pup for this job? My first thought is to look at the one that always watches everything and picks up on any movement very quickly. -------------------------------------------- for those who have been reading up on me: one puppy has made the 1st service / therapy cut. She will stay with me for about 6 - 9 months for all formal training; possibly 1 year. She is what this whole litter is about. ---------- one puppy will stay with me until mid to end of July. This one is going to a home with a child that has ADHD. I will work closely with the family on general "pet" training. This puppy has already demonstrated the ability to help keep child focused and a way to release the energy. We will see if this is the case in 3months. This was an unexpected use for a puppy so I will monitor this one closely. ---------- I am keeping 1-2 my self. I want to keep 2, but I am not sure I can do it (3 grown dogs, plus 3 puppies {4 thru July} is probably going to be more than I can handle). I can readily train 2 at the same time, but 3? Good thing my 3 older dogs have completed their training; last one proofed out 1st of May.

Are they eight weeks old already? Holy that went fast.

7 weeks yesterday. Star boy ( now Maximus) was the exception to the hard rule of no sooner than 8 weeks. His new owner has a 2 year old GSD and had many miles and hours to go for home. Based on the owners knowledge, she seemed to be very familiar with GSDs.

Yes...A big thank you to all of you who helped me through this.  I have learned so much; especially now that I have some better ideas on what to look for in a mating pair to get the end results that I am looking for.

I hope to do another post later today on the pride of the litter.  She is a bit of a wiggle worm and getting a good picture is a challenge.

Please, get OFA certifications on the parents before the next litter.   Good luck.

Yes, very definitly get the OFC on the parents.  I actually have a long list of "what do I look for" questions...but I will wait for that time.  It will be years off (at least 3 before I adventure into the breeding area again).

 With different pair also!

No one needs to worry, Fawn d knows from where I speak.

I commend her for traveling this road with all of us on the forum for help.

It shows her intelligence to seek mentors...That deserves a NOBEL PEACE PRIZE in my books.
