I finished shallacking (sp) a table in my basement. Unfortunately my dad not realizing this let my dog into the basement. Now I have a dog with shallack (sp) on her ears and paws. She is not sick and capillary refil time is good on gums. eating and drinking normally. How do I get the stuff off her paws and ears. I treid Dawn..any other suggestions. She only has it on paws and ears Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I presume you mean that the dog simply got this on it rather than ingested it. If you think the dog ingested it, you should immediately take the dog to an emergency clinic. But I doubt that a dog would drink shellac. If you are going to get this off you will have to use something like a paint thinner. However, unless you can use just a tiny bit of thinner, and then wash with soap and water, I would simply let the shellac dry and in some months it will wear off. It is not worth potentially drying out the skin or making the dog sick because you bathed it in thinner. Such solvents will quickly absorb into the skin and a lot could make the dog very ill, not to mention make both you and the dog high. Just let it go unless this is excessive in amount or ingested.

None was ingested. She just got in on her coat. I guess I will have to give it time and make sure I lock my dad up next time I shallack LOL just kidding

i agree w hodie just let it wear off. on the skin and coat its not going to hurt dog. if it must come off a few drops of turpentine or paint thinner, or goof on cotton then lotion to prevent dryness

You could also try vegetable oil or some other type of oil to get it off, if it's not all the way down to the skin. That won't hurt your dog, though she might have some oil on her ears for a few days. :) Good luck!

You might want to try mineral spirits first won't dry out the skin. If that doesn't work, maybe denatured alchohol springly as that will definitely dry her out
