GSDtravels

Hey guys, no, it's not Drake!  I'm watching my friend's two Bull Terriers, one of them being in kidney/liver failure and yes, he's terminal.  My problem:
When I went down this morning to take them out, there was mucousy, bloody diarreah on the floor.  When I took him outside, he's like a faucet, clear liquid streaked with blood.  Tried contacting his owner, not reachable right now.  Not only is his vet over 40 minutes away, but I have two side jobs and have to leave within the hour and won't be returning for about 4-5 hours.  I hate to leave him, but have no choice.
First of all, how foreboding is this sign, considering his condition?  Second, is there anything I could/should feed him to try to  stop it?  Desperate here, help appreciated.

I would call the dogs Vet and ask their opinion on if the dog should be brought in, they know the dog and his condition and can give you the best idea of what to do for the dog. Hope everything works out.

Yes, call the dog's vet. I wouldn't feed the dog anything. I sure hope everything works out.

Vet doesn't open until 10, the time I'm supposed to leave for work.  Called my side job and she can't/won't reschedule.  I'm so scewed, or should I say, Murphy is :(

Was able to reschedule the second, so at least I'll be home in less than 3 hours, I'll let you know how it works out.  Thanks.

what if he is dead when you get home?  the dog is your responsibility - known health problem or not - IMO take the dog to any vet who is open, emergency and leave the dog in the care of the vet.  you may be late to your job but that's better than returning home to a possible problem that could possibly be avoided by your not waiting 3 hours and hoping he'll be ok when you get home.  tell the client you have an emergency - what if this was your dog? would you leave him alone for 3 hours hoping he'll be ok when you get home?  take him to the vet.  he may be terminal but he doesn't deserve to suffer.

The dogs I board here sometimes get bloody, mucusy diarrhea from nothing other than stress. I would consider the dog's other symptoms before running to the vet. It could just be anxiety from being left alone.

If the dog seems its normal self, other than the diarrhea, it can certainly wait three hours.

Pumpkin (pure canned pumpkin, not the pie filling) is good for diarrhea, as it contains water-soluble fibre that helps the stool stay formed, and it also has anti-inflammatory properties which help soothe the bowel.

I'd say considering what you know of his condition, and myself having gone through this with my brindle dog, I'd say this is a dire situation. I hope not, but I think it is. It was at this point we opted to PTS. That is really the owner's call, so what is your authority on that?

Thanks Yellow and all others who answered.  The dog is not in pain, this has been coming and yes, he may be dead by the end of the day.  His owner knows well what the situation is, he was given weeks to two months and it's been over both.  If he were mine, I'd have had him put down, but it's not my call.  I gave him water, crated the other one and he is resting comfortably on the cool concrete floor in the garage.  The clear fluid/blood has subsided and I can't get in touch with his vet.  I am not taking him to an emergency vet, I cannot pay and he won't be seen unless they get money up front.  My biggest fear was leaving him, but he made it through and now I'm here to nurse him and give him comfort, whatever he needs.

His owner is in the woods, in another state and cannot be reached, cell going directly to VM, so I'm assuming no service.  On top of everything else, my car is in the shop and I have my daughter's Jeep with a bikini top, bucket seats.  Pretty much an impossible situation, just hoping Jim gets my message and comes home sooner than planned.
