BJAY - why do you want him to be HUGE ??? GSD`s are a bedium size breed, if you want huge, there are Great Danes etc., What breeding is he. Are you saying he is scrawny and we have misunderstood perhaps? Mo Lakin - Mascani

Why not let the dog grow at its natural pace? Proper excercise and a quality diet should be all that's needed. Without excercise, the dog won't gain muscle mass no matter what you are feeding. Trying to increase the speed the dog is growing will only lead to problems such as Pano and possibly Hip Dysplasia.

Bjay, muscle is protien, so protien=protien. At the age of sixteen (16) months your boy might weigh eighty (75-80) pounds (35-36 Kilos) if he is destined by heritage to be maximum size. Please know that medium size is the correct size, and he still has twenty (20) more months to grow. He needs to do it very slowly. I would not feed him anything that has a crude protien rate that is higher than 24% while he is still growing. After he is three (3) years old and passed his hip and elbow certifications, then build his muscle through correct exercise. I don't want to sound as if I am giving you a lecture. I know what works and works well for me. Bob-O

We humans are accustomed to abusing our bodies with various radical schemes. At 16 months your dog is a growing adolescent. Don't expect him to fill out for a while. Being lean is healthy. As he matures he will fill out naturally given ADEQUATE nutrition. The males you likely wish for him to emulate are mature adults with years of Schutzhund, show conditioning, and different metabolism and hormones that come with maturity.

The best way for him to be big and impressive and also correct for the breed is exercise. If you hurry him to develope or desire him to be over the breed standard your dog will likely have health problems and do a disservice to both your dog and the breed. Feed a good feed with protein no more than 24% and don't over feed the dog. You should never have to search for the ribs, they should be easy to find or the dog is fat and less healthy. No high impact exercise for a young dog.
