Anyone have experience or input on this food for dogs and puppies? Is it ok for gsd puppies? for adults also I would like information if you have, or opinions, heresay. Is the protein and fat content ok for our Gsd's? etc.? thank you in advance

I have used Wellness food in the past and it is a quality food. I personally prefer Royal Canin Maxi Large Breed Puppy food and their Maxi German Shepherd 24 food and feed it to many GSDs over the course of many years with excellent results. I also use their other varieties in the kennel to feed to clients dogs and have had excellent results.

hodie, for what it is worth, R.C. feeds 5 cups for the same weight as wellness feeds 2 cups. Do you know if that means anything? I do want the best for my brood. Why do you like the Royal Canin? is it the nutritional makeup and the results? Is it something else? Anyone else wany to help out here?

More filler more food. When I feed raw I'm always thinking that isn't enough, but it's better than 5 cups of crap!

Good post 4pack. Filler is just more wear on the system.

GSDLvr2, As you know, I support and feed wellness and wellness WellTabs, as wellness is all natural, and compared to what my doggies have been on in the past, wellness is well worth the price, because on two cups, instead of 5, not only will it likely last you longer, but I don't know about Royal Canin, but wellness is all natural, holistic I mean. The welltabs contain Kelp, Sweet Potato, Blueberry and Garlic, just to name a few, and on that my dogs have had fabulus results. Well, my two cents has been added, Krista (you know my email address ;)

I never feed according to what the bag states, but rather what I observe in the pup or dog. I want my dogs lean. None of my GSDs received 5 cups a day. RC is not a crap food nor is it filled with fillers. It is well liked and gives excellent results and I have fed all the premium foods in the past before settling on this food. This company has done more research on large breeds, including the GSD, than any food company in the world. They understand the difference in GSD skin pH compared to other dogs, and understand the GI issues that GSDs frequently have. My dogs never need fake glosses applied to their coats at shows, lack energy or have health problems. You can easily look up all the foods on the web and see the ingredients. Wellness is only one of about 10 or so premium foods that I can recommend to clients. But for a GSD, more often than not, they do superbly on RC unless there is some health issue that requires attention.

My boy absolutely loves Wellness. He would shred the bag open to get to the food if I left it out. It is good food, but, I think to have noticed my dogs coat being much softer now on Royal Canin, harder stools, and more energy. Maxi 24 is made GSD specific, as wellness is sort of nondiscriminate. My boy also had a lot of loose stool days on wellness. I think out of 30 days, maybe only 15 days werent runny. Im not sure if this was due to the Wellness, but it is what I suspected. As soon as we had changed to Royal Canin his feces hardened again. Im in the process of changing him to Timberwolf now for the first time.

I feed my boy Wellness and his stools are very loose. He loves the food, but I'm going to have to try something new for the sake of his bowels. He has no parasites at all.. so I can only assume it's his food.

Some looseness of stools is in my experience and from others fairly typical of high potency feed.
