I just saw an ad in our local paper advertising a four month old ursus z. batu daughter.  Is this possible? If so, why the z batu instead of v batu?

Just curious.

Could be a spelling error.

Perhaps a different dog from a different kennel. The kennel name Batu is registerd to Hr. Erich Oelscher and will be retired upon his passing and not used again, as per my understanding of S.V. bylaws. So maybe someone was very lucky and bred their bitch to the long-retired Ursus, or used frozen semen. The S.V. does not allow litters produced by AI to be registered, so one would think that frozen semen would be hard to find? But I guess that anything is possible, especially since the Ursus travelled a lot and did not live in Germany for his entire adult life. Or, I suspect that someone stateside may have named his stud male "Ursus zum Batu" and registered him with the A.K.C.. The A.K.C. would not have allowed the dog to be registered as the Ursus von Batu, unless a suffix was added such as "Ursus von Batu 2, 3, 4, 5, or so", and may have well denied it since the Ursus is very famous and has a lot of progeny in the United States. Interesting, to say the least. I believe that the Ursus is still alive, as I have not heard of his passing. Bob-O

I might add that this bitch might be registered with the C.K.C. "Continental Kennel Club" who requires little proof of ancestry past the owner's statements. Still interesting. Bob-O

Vom Brunhaus, I'm confused, is the Ursus dead? Or very much alive living in Japan??? I'm really very confused, how old would the Ursus be now? The picture of him looked GREAT, was that him or one of his MANY progeny? Thanks, Krista blueskyekennels@msn.com

Okay. The Ursus was born 30, May 1995 so he is now past eleven (11) years old. I am not aware of any litter production during the past year or so, and do not have the most recent version of the S.V. Genetics CD-Rom-the latest that I have is from April 2006. I don't think that it IMPOSSIBLE for him to produce a litter as of late, just highly unlikely. If I was in the market for that female I would certainly do a full ivestigation to make the supporting pedigree prove itself to be true. The name "Ursus z Batu is suspicious, but could well be a spelling error as mention by another poster. It's just my suspicious nature in the purebred dog world. Bob-O

Ursus is still living, in Germany. He was in Italy for a while, but has been back in Germany a couple years, now.
