I posted x-rays a few weeks back.

Just got the report back today and here's what it says.

Based upon the radiograph submitted, the consensus was that no evidence of hip dysplasia was recognized.  The hip joint conformation was evaluated as:  FAIR

I'm very pleased with the results.

If there is NO evidence, why FAIR?

What do you have to show/see/have to receive GOOD or EXCELLENT?????

by SitasMom on 11 April 2012 - 18:04

what was on the report?

laxity?
shallow hip sockets?

congradulations, no more sweating bullets.

by VickOH on 11 April 2012 - 18:04

It said nothing else on the report but I'm assuming because the sockets are a tad bit shallow.

Excellent, good, fair, all normal hips for breed and age. A different xray may very well get a good rating, but why bother. I would assume too the fair rating was due to a bit shallow socket is all.

Yes, I'm so relieved they didn't find any evidence of hip dysplasia. Maybe I'll grow my fingernails back now. LOL!  I don't want to redo x-rays at this time because I have a young male who is due to have his prelimins and I also don't want to sedate her again any time soon. I just hate sedating them.

This describes the OFA criteria for grading hips.

by ILGSDs on 13 April 2012 - 03:04

I would gess that it recieved fair because the dogs right hip appears to not be perfectly smooth on the head.

by Blitzen on 13 April 2012 - 12:04

Fair: Assigned where minor irregularities in the hip joint exist. The hip joint is wider than a good hip phenotype. This is due to the ball slightly slipping out of the socket causing a minor degree of joint incongruency. There may also be slight inward deviation of the weight-bearing surface of the socket (dorsal acetabular rim) causing the socket to appear slightly shallow. This can be a normal finding in some breeds however, such as the Chinese Shar Pei, Chow Chow, and Poodle.
