Does raising the feed bowl have any benefits to the GSDs? Some of my friends told me it would be best to raised the bowl for some reasons but I read some acticles that raising the bowl can contribute to bloat.

Studies have been done that show raising the food bowl may have some contributing factors in causing bloat or helping it to happen, should I say.
Often dogs with megaesophagus or heart issues that cause them to regurgitate food, are fed in bowls raised off the ground but each dog is unique in what it needs..

The only time raising a food bowl is a good idea is if there is a medical problem that warrants doing so, as DKiah has already mentioned. There is a study of bloat done by Purdue University. While small, it does suggest that raising bowls may contribute to bloat. Many things that people suggest for their dogs are done because they anthropomorphize the dog. Dogs are dogs. Keeping their bowls clean is important. For most, raising it is about the human thinking it is better to do.

A breeder friend once told me to raise the bowls as well but I never got a particularly good reason from him as to why, he said it was more comfortable for the dogs, I have never raised the food bowls except once for a small puppy with an oesophagus valve problem on the vet^s advice, after all it seems natural that dogs (or wolves) would eat off the ground???
