Picking a puppy - Page 1

I am hoping to find a puppy with a temperment similar to my last GSD so 
I'm wondering how accurate the Volard Puppy aptitude test is for picking out a puppy? Or does anyone know of other good puppy temperment tests?
Also at what age can the temperment or personality of a puppy be determined?

Also at one more question....If puppy has established himself as the alpha in the litter does that mean he/she will be a dominant dog with the trainer?

I have found the volhard test to be extremely inaccurate.  Just watching the litter over a period of weeks is a better predictor.  Pups change status in the litter almost daily.  ( you will often have one litter monster that makes him or herself known from day one) While that is my favorite pup, it may not be the one for you LOL the naughtier and full of themselves they are the better in my books.   The breeder of the litter will have a better idea of who is most suited for what purpose.  Pups are typically who they are at between 7-9 weeks of age.  An alpha pup with his or her sibs in not necessarily dominant with humans.  Hope that answered your questions.

i also feel the test should be done closer to 3 months not 7 weeks, they can change so much, and have seen it, i had a litter that did not show there true drive till 4 months, each litter is very different, as said so much can change and it is true  the pack order can change alot . at 8 weeks i am just starting to see there temp. ask the breeder, that will be the best way, she will know them  .
