So, I thought I would share my morning's adventure in order to cheer up folks about their day.

I took my two GSDs out for their morning walk at 5:30 AM and 15 minutes into our walk, we were attacked by a cat. The darn cat actually ran up the sidewalk hissing and growling at us- wanting to rumble. I couldn't get away from it since the road was too busy with traffic to cross to the other side of the street. My female (Senta) hates cats so I was totally focused on her and not watching where I was going. I tripped on an unlevel part of the sidewalk and fell flat on my back. The pup seized the opportunity to bite me on the lip while I was down. I staggered to my feet and dragged the dogs across the road to get away from the cat. I decided to call it a day and go home. On my way home, a man started shouting at me from the across the road that he wanted to breed his female GSD to my male pup (who is not even 5 months old yet). WTF?! The guy wouldn't take no for an answer and started following me- loudly yelling about "what beautiful puppies we could make". Does this really happen? Do complete strangers really breed their dogs together on the spot? All I wanted to do was go home and have a cup of coffee - I'm ashamed to admit that I gave him an expletive filled response to leave me alone. I ran the rest of the way home, washed my face, and then finally had my coffee.

Hope your morning was better than mine. :)

I"m laughing so hard, at your expense! And the funny thing is, what made my morning crappy is, I had run out of coffee!

But I just had to drive down to the corner and buy a cup without incident, as soon as the school bus left.

Beetree- I totally feel your pain. :)

I did have on a new pair of my absolutely favourite dog walking shoes (Bogs Rue) so the morning wasn't completely awful.

Awww, the sure does sound like a horrible morning  Thankfully you were able to get your kids home without any further damage.

Oh, on the 'We should breed our dogs' note; I had a litter a few years back (not GSDs) and sold a little female on a spay contact, and Limited Reg. Well, one night, about 6 months after I had sold her, her new owner comes INTO my gate, while this poor thing is in heat and asks to use my stud dog, who was HER FATHER. I told him that I sold him this puppy on a Spay Contract and Limited Reg. for a reason and that showing up at my home at 9pm at night with the little girl in heat to randomly hope to catch my stud dog while he was out taking a pee was completely uncalled for. I refused to lift the Limited Registration and never heard from him again, but I'm sure he did find SOMEONE willing to breed to her. *sigh* I interviewed him and his family for weeks before I sold a puppy, and never once was there a sign of CRAZY...WTF, does the crazy have a light switch?! Something in the water?

That was my last litter, and it's doubtful I'd ever breed again, there's just too many crazies out there, ya know?

Laura,

This attack cat.. it did not actually make contact with you or the dogs did it?  One of the vectors for rabies is frequently cats.  A cat that is acting uncharacteristically aggressive could be symptomatic for rabies.. and that is serious stuff.

I have also seen a female cat take on dogs when she has kittens nearby (and who could blame her?).

Not wanting to make a crappy morning worse.. but you need to know the risks if you or your dogs made contact with this cat.

Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear.  Rabies is transmitted when an animal that is symptomatic bites or otherwise introduces the virus via bodily fluids (typically saliva from a bite) to another mammal.

Oh Laura, I hope you havent hurt yourself worse than you thought!  Double triple check all your parts in the morning and see if anything is starting to hurt. I'd be concerned about whip lash.  YES total strangers will chase you down the street to "breed to your dog".  I have had people pull into the drive with bitches in heat, saying they were driving by and noticed I was out training Shepherds!!!!!! Sorry about LF biting your lip, Ouch. Trust me I totally understand having puppies bite tender parts. You have my sympathy!!!  Can Martin get you some chocolate?  Really in this case I think you need some.  O wait he may come back with a spatula ;P

sad  That guy had to be an idiot; is your older dog protection trained?  I used to tell people, and my dog is marked not to pet him;  yet people came up to me to ask:  is he friendly; "NO" I would say, and they would still ask to pet him.  JHC.  Nan  I hope your day gets better;  Nan

I went back to the street where I was attacked to find out information about the cat. I asked a neighbour and the cat isn't rabid, just bizarrely territorial so it usually isn't allowed outside since it will attack pedestrians. Whew- sure glad the cat wasn't rabid.

Brynjulf- I'm getting older and I sure don't recover from a fall very quickly anymore. Frankly, my back and lip are killing me! Unfortunately, Martin is travelling for work so there's no one to bring me chocolate ...I'm sure all of this is his fault for being away.

Nan- I have the same experience with my pup- he doesn't like strangers touching him. People ignore my clear warning and lunge to try to get past me to pet him. JHC is right!

Definately all his fauit for leaving you all alone when you need him most! Take some aleve, that should help with the swellings and pain. Take comfort in the fact, too, that I love your *new* waterproof shoes!
