Has anyone ever sold a GSD through this database?

by Ibrahim on 19 March 2012 - 18:03

What do you mean by "sold a GSD through this database" ?
If what you mean is through a classified (ad) on this site then yes many pups and adults were sold through ads over here. This might be the most visited site by dog lovers and owners. Many breeders are active on the various forums and do benefit from the site as a media for their breeding programs.
But I believe that the management of the site does not involve itself in the transaction and does not guarantee the genuinity nor content of what is being advertised on the site.

I've bought and sold through this site, and so have some of my friends.  So far I've been pleased with the transactions.  However, I have never bought anything sight unseen.  I have shipped a few times (and the buyers were very well informed of the pups they were receiving, with plenty of photos and descriptions of personalities) but most of my puppy buyers come and see their pups and my dogs in person.

If you sell you must put one of the following in the title: EXTRA, SPECIAL, TOP, EXTREME or SUPER. Make sure you put alot of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh & don't forget to put a famous dog 3 generations back in the pedigree as a selling point because I'm sure that dog is a clone of it's great-great grandfather. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

I have stopped advertising because I find people are basically either looking for a dog they can buy cheaply, then build up with exaggerated or fraudulent information and re-sell at a profit. There are some honest people but it is often difficult to weed them out unless you care to engage them and get more info out of them so you can check third party sources.

Some make themselves appear to be a well-known kennel by changing the name just a bit and setting up a fairly professional-looking website.

If someone rushes you or gets verbally abusive, back out!

Unfortunately it has come to dealing with people that I know or getting referrals to others through them. It's not easy but if you are going to spend several thosand dollars on any dog you have to do your homework. People are more than happy to sell you a fleabag that you think is going to be a champ because of what they say or show you. The best thing to do is to go directly to a breeder that shows and competes by checking UScA or GSDCA-WDA events. There are excellent opportunities but you need to look beyond this database to find them.

remione1,

I'm sure that was meant to be funny..but..isn't that what breeding is all about?

Sure would love to hear suggestions on how the FREE ads could be better? FYI, any website/kennel should be all about advertising here because google gives this site very high rankings and can only lead to a higher placement in google search. A website linked to the database through classified will help the placement of your site possibly 10 fold. I would venture to guess 10000s of dogs have been sold through this site directly or indirectly.

We could charge but then that affects the small kennel.

We could possibly look into an escrow company to back the expensive purchases but this would also add to the cost of selling the dog.

So, if anyone has any ideas we would love to hear them.

I would say more sarcasm than funny but....
So your saying breedings all about selling puppies & exaggerating an average pup & trying to sell off the name of a distant relative???? Seriously if all these dogs are "super, extra, blah blah, why are they for sale?

GSD, Have you guys thought of sponsors for individual forums? Just random example..... A working kennel sponsoring the Sport/working forum. He donates x amout of $$ & his kennel banner runs on top of the forum for x amount of days he rents it for. That type of system worked on another forum I belong to & has generated revenue.
Also maybe make different classes of ads for sellers. Basic ad - free = words only & email. Premium ad - $$ = Pictures, links to ped, link to kennel. Just some things that I've seen on other ones. Good luck

Yes, I've developed many leads by advertising here. The buyers are well educated and only want the best for a fair price.

I'd like to see a list of trainers, but country and state. Available on this site.
