Hi everybody my 4 month old shepherd (Beast)hasnt ate in 3 days going on 4 ive been giving him electrolytes  pedialyte and honey according to my vet's suggestions. It all began one morning when instead of running to me to get his food he looked ill. he couldnt even smell his food,he was throwing up and pooping lil pieces of dried up paint(oil based )which probably contains lead. he hasnt been able to keep food down throws it right up. At first i tought he just had an upset stomach but took him to the vet this morning and the vet did a stool sample and said he had high levels of bacteria, So he thinks this is the cause of his ill state of being. My vet gave me antibiotics (ditrim, and flagyl) he also gave beast a liquids injection. Couple hours later and he looks really bad hasnt ate, i shoved sum honey and pedyalite down his mouth along with his antibiotics. My vet said its unlikely to be lead poisining. I wanna know what you guys think if any of you guys have any experience with something like this. i wount sleep tonite so ill really appreciate any help. thank you

go back asap, get a full blood pannel, also check for something stuck in his gut, he may have eaten a toy or sock or something.....that perferated his intestine.

what feed is he on?

will he eat treats or meat?

I had a dog die on ditrim anti so I would definitely ask for another antibiotic, it very, very, extremely hard on the liver and they just shut down and die.  No time to even TRY TO SAVE.  BOL,  Nan

Has anyone noticed the fact the dog was vomiting and defecating PAINT chips DAYS ago?!

Get him to a good vet ASAP.

that's why i suggested a full blood panel....... lead poisoning should show up, and all the systems that are affected.....
chelation (sp) tharapy may be needed to remove lead from his blood before it kills him.

What other symptoms does your dog have? Does he still have diarrhea and vomiting? I would worry about an intestinal blockage from something that he ate. The vet you took him to thought he had too much bacteria in his stool?? Something is up with that vet. Dogs stool should be mostly bacteria? I would treat for Giardia and Coccidia if nothing shows up in an x-ray. I suppose you could do a blood panel to see if he has lead poisoning since you saw paint chips in his stool. Get the x-ray for sure, if he ate paint he may have eaten what the paint was attached to. I would consider switching vets while you are at it.

Vet asap, like not tomorrow, now. Pups not eating for multiple days is not good. Did you mention the paint to the vets? If you did and all they suggested was go home and give them electrolytes, go to another vet.

I don't know the antibiotic your dog is on. You need to see the vet again. Depending on how much vomitting, your dog may need to get fluids. The paint chips worry me. Having said that, years ago I had a young dog present with major vomitting and bloody, slimy liquid stool. No, not parvovirus. Trust me, scared the dickens out of me! But a major bacterial overload of the gut. Until the stomach got to the point where it was settled with metronidazole, she did not feel like eating. We started her with stinky, yummy baby food. But very slow. Some rice with no sodium organic chicken broth (home made) also was soon tempting to her. The pedialite with anything in the belly that is soothing is good. But either way, you need to get a bloodpanel and rule out an obstruction asap. Also, did you run a parvovirus test?
