Does anyone have any thoughts on this food?; i recently switched to it, mainly due to economics; the dogs enjoy it a lot and do well so far... thanks in advance, kosta

Kosta, LOVE IT !! Can't say enough about it, dogs love it, poo is good consistency, they are healthy, happy, have stamina, I love Diamond ingredients and consistency. For me it's been a great choice.

Thank you, i was wondering also about the quality of the food; looks and sounds like premium food with no allergens on the ingredient list, k.

Was Diamond the food that had the recall not too long ago? Something in the ingredients that killed a few dogs? Might not be, thought that was where I heard the name...

Yes Diamond had an issue awhile back with a fungus I believe.

by EchoMeadows on 16 October 2006 - 01:10

The problem was in a single plant that produces the feed. It was not all plants and not all lines of feed that were effected, I said it before, At least Diamond (when they learned what was happening) Pulled all they're product to ensure no more dogs would be effected. I can appreciate that. I'm quite sure other feed companies have had issues as well.

Diamond Pet Foods makes a large number of Brand names. Whick brand names/name are you referring to?

Personally I am feeding the Diamond Naturals. No By-Products and Corn. The dogs love it. I love it. It is affordable. Plus it still comes in the original 40 lbs bags. All of the feedcompanies have issues at times. Maybe nothing as drastic but I agree with EchoMeadows - I feel that they did not waste any time to recall.

Actually Diamond did wait longer to recall the contaminated feed than they could have. A good friend lost 3 dogs and a few others were hospitialized and survived albeit their liver function is still not within the normal range and may never be. They were sick for weeks before they died and Diamond did not recall specific batches of this food until then. They were well aware of the problem for weeks prior to the recall. There is pending litigation. Given the history of the contaminated feed, Diamond may be one of the safest foods on the market currently. The pending lawsuits raised many issues regarding the way Diamond monitored the quality of their products. The owners of the dogs that died were offered little in the way of compensation for the deaths of these dogs, so many have opted for litigation either as a class action suit or as individual actions. Diamond has learned a hard lesson. There really is no such thing as a "safe dog food". Even feeding raw or homemade diets does not offer that guarantee. The recent spinach/e.coli illnesses and deaths bear witness to that.
