Over the last 25yrs (SWAT) I've worked with a lot of hard dogs in the real world, and we are training with very specialised military units in preparation for the Olympics as we speak and their dogs. You can buy a puppy that's hard and a poor trainer will easily ruin it, either break it completely or make it into a tragic mental case.
Some of the hardest dogs I have ever worked with that have been stabbed, frequently kicked and beaten over many hours during riots, were nearly all without exception very social, chilled out dogs. A bit like the people I work with, the highly strung, up for anything always fizzle out when the chips are down.
If your training involves a dog taking corrections like a champ you should either get a KNPV malinois, you can kick him about all day, or invest in some training yourself.
You'll find in a couple of years as you develop as a person and trainer you will read back over these posts and cringe!
Nature is only part of it, nuture, training and experience is the rest.

perhaps from some of the older lines.
But, be prepared when you want that dog
to 'take corrections like a champ', cause you
are going to need to be on your toes when
he teaches YOU how to be fair to a dog

If a Rottie doesn't suit your tastes, I'd recommend
a big 3-5yr old PH2 Dutch Shepherd, they tend to
share the same philosophy about 'taking corrections
like a champ' as most male Rotties.
When you get out of the hospital/rehab and regain the
use of your hand(s) for typing, please come back
and let the group know what you have learned
about 'hard' dogs & taking/giving corrections
'like a champ'.
