Hi i have a female that came into heat at 10 1/2 months old. 2 1/2 months later she acts like she's coming into heat again. first time she bleed and swelled. this time she's a little swollen but i've seen no sign of blood yet but my male is going crazy to get to her like he did the first time. anybody have an idea of what might be going on?

Is it possible she could be experiencing a split heat?
My female who was about 8-9 months old at the time went into heat. Bled for 2-3 days, then stopped. Wasn't swollen and my male didn't pay any attention to her. I kept them separated, did all the things I had planned and yet no reaction from either.
On January 27th, she started to bleed again. This time it was a heavy flow, my male was going insane (still is) and she is almost done bleeding now (February 8).
I am not sure if we had a flase heat or a split heat or what.
Could be similar.
I have talked to people who say that the first heat (or even first couple) can be tricky to pin-point and also can act kind off.

In her previous home my female had regularly 3 heats a year. After moving into a new home and being the only dog her cycle turned to normal 2 heats per year. It's common for bitches to have 3 heats a year especially when there are other females around to compete with. Some have only one.
Keep an eye on your female since some males can sense an upcoming uterus infection.
Does anyone have any information if all the heats are as fertal?

My female did the same thing. Could be a split heat, or your bitch may just be trying to get her cycles regulated. Sounds like she'll cycle 3-4 times a year.

does this mean that she'll be hard to get pregnant when she's old enough to breed? i've heard that bitches with split cycles are very hard to breed.

Some young females take a cycle or 2 to get regulated. No need to worry about fertility or breeding until she's 2 years old & has passed her certifications anyway. Of course watch for signs of infection just in case, but the most likely situation is that she's just young & that her cycles will get more regular as she matures. But as a warning, this means she may be fertile when you are not suspecting she is....so be very careful with her or you may have a surprise! jackie harris

Could be a split, could be that she will cycle 3x per year. My bitch and her daughter both cycle 3x per year, so every 4mos. instead of six. I wouldn't worry about it at this age; her body may just be trying to regulate itself. FWIW, both my bitch and her daughter who cycle 3x per year are easy breeders. Never had a breeding not take...knock on wood, lol.
