While watching the 2005 Sieger show, I noticed a kink on Larus' tail. Does he has a kinked tail or was it just the fur? Can naturally born kinked tail parents pass it to their progeny (genetically?) Does kinked tails affect the result during the show? Thanks.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Larus' tail. I have seen the dog since 2001 Dusseldorf when he was SG1 JKL many times and find he is absolutely ok.

Well Laris there is one in billion possibility that Larus has kinked tail. Come on SV is not that biased yet to make a dog with kinked tail twice sieger. And even if he has kinked tail nothing can be done now.

There is nothing such thing with Larus tail. I saw dog million times, its absolutely wrong statement.

Does it affect show placing at all? If it is small or at the end?

A tail with a kink in it, depending what you really mean by this, may be due to genetics, or due to injury at any time in life. Given two dogs of equal quality, conformationally speaking, yes, if all things were equal the kink would be considered a fault and noted. Just like torn ears, scars etc., these things should be noted, but in the scheme of things they are generally considered minor. The tail, according to the standard, should be a sabre like tail and hang freely with a slight curve going vertically. Some dogs have slightly shorter tails, and, in fact, I have an otherwise nice Larus son who has a tail that is only a little longer than down to his hock. He probably will still get a V rating because other wise he is a nice looking male.

I have to say that on the videos I have seen I never liked the look of Larus`s tail either, I have to agree with Laris here, though obviously its not considered a significant fault.

What prompted me asking that question was that I have a 3 months old litter. The pick of the litter is a female with a slightly kinked tail. I wasn't going to keep her until I saw the video of Larus, which appeared to have a slight kink when he runs. The kink isn't obvious at standard pose. When compared to other dogs, his tail does not have a smooth line, watch the video and perhaps you will understand what I meant. Laris

Laris I know exactly what you mean about Larus and I think I did notice similar tails in some progeny (I have only seen the videos, not in real life), but with your female pup I would not worry unduly if she is otherwise very good. I have a female who as a puppy had a tight hook at the end of her (rather long) tail, however this never seemed to affect her in shows, she was always highly placed, she has competed in many shows and only one judge ever commented on the tail. Now the hook is much less obvious.
